Mechanical chronograph movement with manual winding, 28,800 vibrations/hour, 27 jewels. Rattrapante (or split-seconds) chronograph: This is a type of chronograph in which the large hand is split, but the two parts are superimposed with such accuracy and precision that they appear as a single hand. It is used to measure the time of two events that start at the same moment but do not end at the same moment. After a simultaneous start, one of the two hands can be stopped, thus indicating a first time measurement. Then, by restarting it, it instantly catches up with the other moving hand and superimposes itself, moving together again. Obviously, this sequence can be repeated as desired. By resetting the chronograph, both hands can be brought back to the zero position on the dial. The mechanical device that allows these functions is very delicate. Therefore, a split-seconds or rattrapante chronograph is a finely crafted and high-cost piece. Before digital chronometers existed, it was used for timing all sports competitions.
